Waiting for the PSP2…

As I wait for the Sony Playstation Meeting 2011 to start, I’m thinking about how Its never been so obvious what’s going to be included in a press conference than it is tonight. Sony WILL unveil the PSP2 tonight, The entire gaming industry has drawn this conclusion from the myriad of leaked info on the hand-held that developers are already saying is in existence. What we don’t know are the features, rear touch pad, touch screen, gyros, dual analog sticks, 3G compatibility, PSPgo style sliding formfactor, download only games, phone features, bigger OLED screen…nearly everything has been rumored to be included. Within the next hour and a half, we will know what to expect when the platform launches.

Kotaku is live blogging away and many US based press outlets that probably would have skipped the quite lengthy trip to Japan had a promise of PSP2 news not been made are on hand to break the news as fast as the their Japanese 3/4G connections can send it.

But what if they don’t announce it? Wouldn’t that be great? The media outlets surrounding the games industry are unlike anything else. Sony can’t hold a secret longer than a few days and the journalists salivate at the idea of being the “the guy that got it right”. Sony would really ruin alot of evenings by not unveiling some kind of hardware, whether it be the PSP2 or the also rumored Playstation Phone.

Engadget has a Sony Ericsson has a full hands on with the product product “codenamed” Xperia Play. How’s that for a dumb made up name…try making fun of Zune now…ha! What’s shown in the hands on video is compelling and ripe for ideas.  What will Sony say about it tonight if anything…

Well, the conference starts in 2 minutes and I’ve got blogs to watch, but I’ll post an update when its done to give you my thoughts on what actually comes out of this “all important” Playstation Meeting.

Just a quick update…its here
