Uncharted 3 Announced in Entertainment Weekly…of All Places

The announcement of Uncharted 3 is not a surprise in the least. Last year’s game of the year, and hugely successful Sony exclusive from Naughty Dog, Uncharted 2 pretty much guaranteed it.  Today, Entertainment Weekly announced details on the much anticipated Uncharted 3.  I’m really more surprised to find that EW has game coverage.  “Who knew?”

Uncharted 3 will be set in Rub’ al Khali Desert and will explore both the relationship Nathan has with Sully and flirt with historic ties to Lawrence of Arabia and Sir Frances Drake (the later being the main focus of the first Uncharted game).  Uncharted 1 was set in the jungle, Uncharted a snowcapped mountain, Uncharted 3 a desert, my money says that if we follow Mario level logic Uncharted 4 will be in a volcano or underwater.   Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is loosely slated to be launched in the fall of 2011.

Naughty Dog is typically efficient so don’t expect it to be delayed.  A teaser trailer was released that teases both the game and more details coming at the Spike Video Game awards.  With Uncharted Books and movie announcements in 2011, next year is looking to be the year of Nate Drake…color me satisfied.
