Liugeaux’s E3 Day 2.0

Day 2 was hectic. With day one we actually had some what of a schedule, but on day two everything was just a free for all. We all split up and went to the booths that each of us wanted to visit.

The very first thing that Kary and I did was visit the Nintendo booth to get our hands on The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. It was easily the only DS game that had any kind of line forming next to it. I’ll have more coverage on Spirit Tracks in the coming days. After playing that it, was off to the races, and us trying to find games with short lines.

After walking to the south hall we found that a Left 4 Dead 2 demo had been setup in the Microsoft booth overnight. We were lucky enough to play it. Many of my concerns about Left 4 Dead 2 are still present even after playing the demo, but gameplay wise fans of the first game are sure to dig its sequel.

With that pleasant surprise behind us, we moved on to smaller games. Now, I can’t speak for the rest of the team, but here’s what I played today. The Conduit, Saw, Batman Arkham Asylum, Dead Space: Extraction, and I hit up New Super Mario Bros Wii and TMNT Smash Up again.

After playing The Conduit the Sega.com team wanted some impressions from me for their podcast. I had a lot of positive things to say as you can see by my impressions post here on Techpedition, and I got a great opportunity to plug the website on a major developer’s podcast. Now that’s progress.

I got a few T-shirts today, but the overall the amount of swag that is being handed out is a bit disappointing. I was expecting really cool stuff to be launched at the attendees constantly, but the only consistent thing I can get for free is 5 Hour Energy shots. I may spend tomorrow carefully scheduling my time at booths that have set swag times.

Today will be the only day that I will fork out massive chunks of time to wait in line for one video game. It took well over an hour to play Zelda and the play time on the demo was only like 15 minutes max. I think I’m going to stick to taking photos and getting swag tomorrow. The only two games I want to hit up are Rabbids Go Home and Red Steel 2.

Oh also, at the Ubisoft booth there is a Splinter Cell Conviction demo that is played for the crowd by one lucky person at a time (actually that person could very well be an Ubisoft employee; that’s not my point.) Along with this demo, is an announcer that is trying his hardest to get your attention with scripted lines such as “Sam fisher is back and this time it’s personal.” and “He’s looking for his daughter’s killer and has become a rogue with a mission.” I don’t know if those lines read as corny in writing but come on Ubisoft…Splinter Cell doesn’t need a hype man…it needs a playable demo. I’m sure that game will speak for itself.
