It’s the First Annual Rebreys, Reality Breached’s new music awards. Today talk about Best Songs, and unlike other days, today we have four categories!
Best Pop Song
-Nominees-
Into You – Ariana Grande
24k Magic – Bruno Mars
Truthfully – DNCE (Winner)

Ignoring the fact that Truthfully sound exactly like Extreme’s More Than Words, it has the timeless feel a “Thinking out Loud” or “Rolling in the Deep”. Release this track in 1975, its a hit, release it in 1995, its a hit, DNCE perfectly capture the essence of acoustic ballads with this touching and heartbreaking piece. Mars and Grande didn’t even come close to winning this category. But hey, those songs are great too.

Best Rock Song
-Nominees-
Stuck in Your Head – I Prevail
My Champion – Alter Bridge
Hot Blood – Kaleo (Winner)

The most classically “rock” song in any of these lists, Hot Blood is clearly heavily influenced by The Black Keys, and that’s perfectly okay. My Champion is easily the best Alter Bridge song since Blackbird and I Prevail’s album plays better as a whole that this one track. The right answer to this category is Kaleo.

Best Punk Song
-Nominees-
Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time – Panic! At the Disco
Tidal Wave – Taking Back Sunday
Bang Bang – Green Day (Winner)

Bang Bang didn’t bang with me at first, but as it settled in as the lead single and as it set the tone for yet another solid Green Day album, I found myself not only going out of the way to listen to it but screaming BANG BANG, every time. Good Time is the best song off the already awarded Panic! album, but I don’t think it holds a candle to Green Day’s magic. Also, the stylistic shift of Taking Back Sunday’s “Tidal Wave” was a welcomed change.

Best Alt/Rock Song
-Nominees-
Ugh! – The 1975
Send Them Off! – Bastille
Je Viens De La – Two Door Cinema Club (Winner)

If we had a best Dance song category, Je Viens De La would be a lock…and that just shows how little I know about dance music. It was a VERY strong year in the Alt/Rock category, as the nominees in this category changed 3-4 times. At no point was TDCC anywhere other than on top.

One more day!!!! Tomorrow we crown best Album!!!
