The Tudors Star Henry Cavill Flys as Superman

The internet has been abuzz today with the recent news of Henry Cavill landing the highly coveted role of Superman (aka the most recognizable character in the universe outside of Mickey Mouse).  He is best known for playing the part of Charles Brandon on the Showtime series The Tudors.

As with all superhero movies, many names were thrown around in connection with Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise “The Man of Steel”.  Even Smallville star Tom Welling had been brought up numerous times and had a huge fan push behind it.

In the end, Cavill got the part.  This seems like a smart casting.  Obviously Warner Bros. can’t bring on anyone that will bring baggage.  Choosing someone with experience in a real acting role that is a relative nobody, is exactly the direction they need to go.  Cavill looks the part and Snyder sounds excited to have him on the team.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

You can expect Cavill to don the tights and cape in 2012, assuming “The Man of Steel” doesn’t get caught up in production hell like 5 of the last 6 proposed Superman flicks.
